Wise moms have known for years that “A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.”
Now, companies are selling flavors like chocolate, cherry and strawberry – all to help kids swallow bad-tasting medicines.
It’s a sweet idea, but you can do the same thing at home – and avoid paying extra for a kid-friendly flavor. Consider mixing chocolate, strawberry or even pancake syrup into liquid medicines. Some pills can be crushed and mixed into applesauce, ice cream, or pudding. And for medicines that really turn smiles into frowns, try following a dose with a mint or a spoonful of ice cream.
Always check with your pharmacist before crushing or altering any medication. But if you get their OK, you’ll be amazed at what a “spoonful of sugar” may do.
