Shine 180: Miss Pearl

(Parental Warning: Due to some graphic content, this podcast is cautioned for children under age 13)

Shine 180…stories of lives transformed by God because of your faithfulness.

We are all on a journey. We are all at different points on our journey….and that’s OK.

The purpose of our journey is simple, but sometimes difficult…keep moving forward becoming more like Jesus. Miss Pearl thought God wasn’t big enough to handle her sin. What she did know is that there is a Savior who doesn’t give up and had a plan to use her to transform the lives.

June Difference Maker: KIC-IT

kic it

KIC-IT (Kids In Crisis – Intervention Team) began in the Fall of 2009, as service providers realized there was a gap in services for teens and young adults who were homeless or couch-surfing.  These youth often showed up at churches seeking help, especially housing, but the necessary resources simply weren’t available. In the fall of 2011, members of KIC-IT launched a pilot program to begin serving this population in Johnson County.

The initial phase of the program provided for a drop-in center, where youth could get connected with people and programs that are able to offer solutions.  KIC-IT expanded its services to begin offering outreach and case management services to at-risk and homeless youth in Johnson County. The staff and volunteers at KIC-IT hope to strengthen the capacity of public and private organizations by increasing knowledge about collaboration, homelessness, and successful interventions as well as innovative solutions to work towards ending homelessness.

Difference Makers: Transitions Mentoring Ministry

Barna Research states that a majority of those who are raised in the church and profess a personal faith in Christ, walk away after graduating from high school.  Our October Difference Maker, Transitions Mentoring Ministry is doing something about that statistic.  Transitions uses discipleship tools, along with mentor-mentee accountability to encourage and shape the lives of young women making the transition from high school to college and beyond.
