Each Other’s Presence

These days in my classes at the university I’ve had kind of a fun little friend coming with me.

I know it. Jackson, our three year old, has just been asking if he can go to school with you everyday.

And he sits there on the front row watching me lecture.

Two hundred students out in the class and he just quietly plays.

He has his little crayons there and the students seem to enjoy it. But it means a lot to me that he’d want to be with me.

And the funny thing is, you’re not playing with him, you’re not talking to him—he’s just in your presence.

And there’s something about that in any relationship. Even in our own marriages, just to be with your partner when it may not the kind of activity you would choose.

Shopping for instance?

Friend, think about that in your own relationship.
