We asked you to nominate an outstanding volunteer on your worship team. We were flooded with incredible stories that we’ll be sharing this week!
Patty is tireless. She retired from her 8-5 job due to disability and has since thrown herself only more deeply into worship volunteerism. She runs our multimedia system almost every Sunday, sacrificing her time to worship with her family, and when she’s not in the booth, she’s on stage, playing the violin. This means she is also at every rehearsal, every special event, and often spends every day at the church building, although she still manages to volunteer in other areas to spend time with her daughter, who is a senior in high school this year. (Her son recently completed Army boot camp.) Patty also runs and coordinates our meal ministry outreach, serving more than 100 meals per week to the hungry in our community, and has started our pantry program and organizes our community garden and canning program. She doesn’t have a lot; her house is in need of dire repair, she shares one ragged car with her husband (who works full-time) and daughter, and son when he is home, and she couldn’t even find the money to get to her son’s Army graduation, which I know broke her heart. As much as she does for us, and as little as she is able to do for herself, she still exudes joy. You can see the exhaustion in her, but she is so passionate about giving all she has to serve…it’s just that like most of us, she sometimes gives too much and still thinks it isn’t enough. I would love to see Patty have the chance to refresh – to worship and not have to be “on duty” but just to be in the presence of others who bring worship and be restored.
